Pumpkin picking

Oh the hayrides, the maze of hay bales, the warm cider to warm our bellies, and of course the pumpkins. Aren't the visions of pumpkins anxiously sitting pretty upon hay bales too much to stand, don't you just wanna take 'em all home.

Not us, right to Target, throw one in the cart, D-O-N-E.

We even invited our cousin JoJo along for the tradition.

lunch

This is something I don't want to fess up to but, the other day I ate chili cheese fries from Sonic. When I unveiled the serving that is usually consumed in the complete privacy of my own car with only the carhop (but I am sure the pierced/tattooed teenage/twenty something roller skater never judges) as a witness, I made a dramatic "OOO" and "AAH" to which my sweet boy replies, "looks like poop."

See for yourself.

Channeling my Martha

I found a great fall decorating idea on a favorite family blog. I was very excited to try my hand at making glittered gourds. I was a bit apprehensive at the reminiscent thought that my perfect pumpkins may turn out looking like the sequined/beaded fruit of yesteryear.

I am so excited to report that I LOVE the result. I even made a set for Mom to use for a few dinner parties, they were fab.

Great day

Rob is really great at taking time to celebrate his birthday. I am trying to follow his example because, really, why not take some time to fool around and milk the fact that you are getting old and just maybe, if Rob's wildest dreams come true, the world will stop and salute you on your great day.

SO, we started our day with a trip to the local Krispie Kreme. That's right, no calorie counting either.

Then it was time for a little Target shopping. (The new Joss Stone disc isn't too bad.)

A late lunch at Olive Garden with a sleeping Ridge and plenty of Alfredo.

Rob took the children to buy me a wonderful necklace and DVD, Easy Virtue, also highly recommend. I had a great day. Of course my actual birthday was on Sunday and we attended Stake Conference and went to dinner at my parents' house. Wonderful!

Disneyland again

We made one more trip down to the Happiest Place on Earth this last week. We had a great time, my brother and niece were able to join us and it was just great.

We did have a trip of firsts.

First, we set off the smoke detector in our hotel room. Luckily not one hotel staff member was imposed upon to make sure that we were not indeed on fire. Thank you, Fairfield for making us feel at home.

We then encountered my first bee sting at Disneyland. A very authentic situation: we were leaving the Pooh Bear ride with the buzzing bee sounds and all when the ride attendant said, "there is a bee on your shirt." We all believed him to bee kidding. He again stated the fact and when I looked, there was a bee starting a descent down Rob's back. I very instinctively flipped Rob's collar and watched the bee land on my ankle and by the time I realized what I did and thought to get my leg out of the way, I was stung.

We watched a toddler sleep peacefully in his stroller and then realized he was unattended and waited for a parent to show. Finally I got some help and quickly a security guard waited for the parent to return. We were shocked to see the very young mother walk through the line we were in, grab the sleeping child and awkwardly carry him back to her place in line. We figured he was alone for a good 20 minutes.

We rode rides we hadn't been on in years and gave Ridge his first taste of the Rocket ride. Thanks to Uncle Jason, Rob and I rode Big Thunder and the California Screamin roller coaster.

We also enjoyed a fabulous fireworks show while standing in line for the Rocket ride.

Great trip!

Rockin the Red Wash

So, my very generous mother-in-law treated me to an early birthday gift. Isn't this the dream come true of us laundry mavens, a brand new "wild cherry" red washer and dryer. I felt like I was on The Price is Right when I was presented with these fabulous appliances.

Can I just say how fun it is to do my laundry. When a cycle is done, there is a little song that plays to let you know that the absolutely quite cycle has indeed ended. I never used the buzzer on my old washer because the obnoxious "bzzzzzz" always scared me. I really love the speed wash and dry features too. When you forget to wash that pair of workout pants and it's 10pm, thank goodness for the speed wash and dry! I am trying to read up on how to use the steam dryer to freshen up our dry cleanables. Look for more laundry posts to come!

So, in case you missed it, yes, I love my new washer and dryer and would definitely recommend the LG brand.
